What to expect in your first session

It can be a big step seeking help and often anxiety provoking. It can be comforting to have an understanding of what to expect here at Evanesce, especially when you start your journey of what is often a transformation of personal challenges into life-enhancing opportunities. I feel that our initial contact should be a time to get to know each other in order to assess the issues. I offer this initial assessment free of charge and as quickly as possible, to explore whether counselling with Evanesce is right for you. This initial assessment tends to be a bit shorter lasting around 20 mins in order to discuss a broad overview of your issues. 

I believe the sessions are not about simply providing you with advice or telling you what to do, instead you are in control and you decide what you want to talk about, this way you always feel empowered and supported to make the improvement you want by identifying your goals and knowing when you have achieved them at the end of therapy. Often exploring and clarifying issues and feelings as well as what options are available to you, can help you decide on a way forward that is best for you. As such, I have found in order to receive the greatest benefit from the service, it helps if you be yourself and are motivated to make a voluntary change and willingly engaging from the very first session.

I don’t use fixed term contracts or upfront fees (you pay per session). I believe our work together should be open ended and proceed at your own pace, allowing the time and space to gradually develop insight into the root cause of your concerns and I will provide you with a dedicated place for as long as you wish.
